Dr Yolandie Goodyear



Yolandie has worked in psychiatry for more than a decade and has extensive experience in assessment and management of various mental health conditions (across inpatient and outpatient/ community settings). She has worked in Newcastle, Maitland, Tamworth, Armidale and Taree and is a qualified child and adolescent psychiatrist, with a strong interest in helping young people and their families, and has the capacity to see young people (and their families) up to the age of 18.


Over the last 2 years, she has been studying and working in the field of gender diversity and gender dysphoria.  She has assessed many young people and supported them and their families through this journey.  As a full member of ANZPATH, Yolandie has presented at conferences, mental health teams and schools about gender diversity and how to help young people be comfortable in their skin.


Yolandie is also interested in mood and anxiety disorders (particularly the psychotherapeutic management). She is trained in the Conversational Model and Interpersonal Psychotherapy, but usually works in a fairly eclectic psychodynamic model. 

She can provide assessment of early psychosis, and assist in the development of treatment plans for mixed medical/psychiatric conditions. Also providing support around psychiatric conditions complicated by substance use. Yolandie does not offer assessment or treatment of developmental disorders (ASD, ODD, CD or ADHD) or eating disorders at this stage, and is not a stimulant prescriber.
