Critical Incident Response

NewPsych is there to help with crisis support when there is a serious event that is likely to impact upon your workforce. This includes sudden and unexpected events that are (or are potentially) life-threatening, both at work and outside of work.

  • Serious accidents

  • Near-miss safety or traffic incidents

  • Injury or death of employee or their family member

  • Witnessing a traumatic event

  • Violence or threats of violence

  • Self-harm or threats of self-harm

  • Natural disasters

Other organisational events likely to impact on employees and so benefit from an onsite service from our team of psychologists include redundancies and organisational change. Learn more about how we support organisations in these circumstances here.

When things go wrong, NewPsych is available straight away. We provide consultation and advice, expert support for those affected, and an onsite presence where required.

NewPsych's critical incident response is tailored to the event.

In some cases, support and coaching is provided to organisational leaders to ensure the best response. There may be an immediate onsite service, drop-in support as needed, communication and support coaching to leaders, or off-site follow up.

Evidence suggests that group debriefing is not best practice, and that for some people it's likely to exacerbate their psychological symptoms. NewPsych does not provide group debriefings and instead adheres to best practice response including Psychological First Aid (ensuring that safety, emotional support and connection is available and offering ongoing support at a later date).

We may continue to attend onsite as needed, or return at particularly important times such as anniversaries. We also take note of those at increased risk because of the nature of the event and their role (i.e. colleague, first responder, family) and ensure people are offered follow-up treatment as they need.

Mental Safety App

The mental health of workers can be seriously impacted by a workplace incident.

This is particularly the case for key workers such as first responders, WHS professionals, human resource professionals and business leaders/owners.

This app is designed to help you and your business protect both your own and your workers’ mental safety before, during and after a significant workplace incident.
