Tommy was born and raised in the North Island of New Zealand, where he completed a Master of Psychology and a Master of Clinical Psychology. Prior to moving to Newcastle in February 2019, he worked in a public setting, providing assessment, counselling and interventions to children, adolescents, adults and families across a range of challenges.
Tommy enjoys working with a wide variety of clients overcoming depression, anxiety, recent or past trauma, anger, addiction, and other life stresses. He takes a balanced and nonjudgmental approach, acknowledging that we all have vulnerabilities and strengths. He utilises evidence-based treatment models including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), while incorporating aspects of mindfulness, relaxation training, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Solution Focussed Brief Therapy (SFBT).
Tommy served as a commander in the New Zealand Army for ten years, fulfilling various leadership roles in New Zealand, Afghanistan and Egypt. He gained experience in peacekeeping, as well as counselling and mentoring soldiers from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds.
Tommy is passionate about the outdoors, motorcycling, family, and working with clients to achieve growth towards their meaningful life.
