Joanne has completed a Master of Clinical Neuropsychology and has been working as a Psychologist since 2008. She has experience in working with a wide spectrum of clients, from young adolescents to the elderly.
Jo has specialised in working with clients who are dealing with the cognitive and psychiatric consequences of neurological conditions such as traumatic and acquired brain injuries, and neurological illnesses such as dementia. She provides behaviour-based therapy and supportive counselling to assist clients in adjusting to their condition. Jo can also provide neuropsychological assessments.
She also specialises in clients with depression, anxiety and panic, post-traumatic stress, adjustment to disability, return to work following injury, anger and addiction. Jo takes a client-centred approach to therapy and utilises techniques from evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, as well as teaching relaxation and mindfulness. She enjoys helping clients make sense of their condition and emotions and aims to assist clients improve their overall well-being.
As well as enjoying the numerous activities and sights Newcastle has to offer, Jo thoroughly enjoys her down time at home, which may involve harassing her cat, cooking, reading or binge-watching movies.
